GTA 6 may have a woman as the protagonist and a script based on Bonnie & Clyde

With the intention of reinventing itself, Rockstar Games is changing its environment and betting on new features in its flagship

Following recent changes like removing transphobic jokes in the latest version of GTA V, Rockstar Games is heading down a more comprehensive and inclusive path. So it looks like the next iteration of the franchise will add a woman as one of the protagonists. GTA 6 is still far from release, but it already promises to be the company’s turning point.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the developer of works like Red Dead Redemption and Bully is actively working on Grand Theft Auto 6. Apparently, the new venture will add a woman as one of the protagonists for the first time in the series.

She will be a Latina and will be paired with another character. The narrative should be highly influenced by the story of Bonnie and Clyde, a couple of bank robbers that marked American history between 1931 and 1936. In addition, some developers who are working on the game commented on the fact that they are more cautious. They don’t want to make fun of minorities or commonly marginalized groups.

Even still far from any confirmation or release date, GTA 6 already promises to be differentiated in many aspects, from its characters to its world. It remains to be seen whether we will have confirmations in the near future.

Real-world controversies affect GTA

Many of the decisions apparently made by Rockstar Games reflect complicated situations that have occurred in recent years. For example, the death of George Floyd, caused by a police officer in 2020, started a series of protests in the United States and around the world.

Likewise, the developer has decided to cancel a mode planned to come to GTA Online. Its name would be Cops ‘N Crooks, a game similar to the Police and Thief game. That is, the company deduced that this would not go down well with the events taking place at the time.

Another factor that called for changes was the work environment within Rockstar. In this regard, many employees even commented on high levels of alcohol and trips to strip clubs. Not to mention the several cases of crunch hours, something cultural within the company, but which has been undergoing changes recently.

Finally, it is valid to point out that transformations of this type are beneficial for a company that aims at inclusion and a more satisfactory work sphere for all its employees.

Now it’s time to wait for the following Grand Theft Auto 6 news.
